The county 911 center received a call at 3:47 p.m. Monday about a man slumped over in a pickup with an apparent bullet wound in the back, said Gregory Dendinger, investigator with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
Roger Bailey, 57, was declared dead when emergency personnel arrived on the scene. The sheriff’s department is working with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation out of the Jacksonville field office, Dendinger said.
Herman Roosevelt Green Jr, 38, of Woodland, and Alan Truman Higgins, 49, of Omaha, were identified as “persons of interest” by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department. Dendinger said the department has not listed them as suspects but considers them armed and dangerous.
Motives for the killing were unclear, Dendinger said.
“That’s what we’re hoping to find out when we talk to these two individuals because we don’t really know the cause of it,” Dendinger said.
Green and Higgins are said to be driving a blue Chevrolet pickup with a gray passenger side door and an expired Alabama license plate, number 54741AN. The plate expired in March.
Anyone who sees the two should contact either the local police or the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, Dendinger said.
