Alabama's public schools likely will have at least 1,000 fewer teachers and state two-year colleges and universities will face closing programs and leaving faculty positions vacant if they don't get increases from the state Education Trust Fund next year, education leaders said Thursday. 

But state lawmakers during budget hearings here said the trust fund simply won't have increased money to give to schools, colleges or universities next year.
