Once again, the board has prevailed upon Mandi King to serve as chairperson for this year’s dinner. The dynamic duo of Brigitte Miller and Margo Finch are “understudying” Mandi for this role, so you know that the evening will be well planned with lots of fun and perhaps even a few surprises thrown into the mix.
These three ladies are keeping David Mashburn’s menu a closely guarded secret, refusing even to share it with board president Justin Lord. Board member Jill Pike, who is preparing the program for the evening, has also been sworn to secrecy, so trying to pry this info out of her will not work either.
Board VP Cheryl Potts is doing her best to cajole Janet Tyson Prosser (Tyson Fine Wines & Things) into reveaing the wine tasting selections for the evening, but secrecy is ruling the day there, too.
John Fuller, Ted Heathcock and Braxton Harris were similarly unsuccessful in their efforts to bribe Gina Weatherly Stephens of International Wines to tell them the wine selections that will accompany the meal.
Based upon past experience, Kathie Jordan and Karen Silvers remain confident that all of the wine selections will be wonderful. (Hank Smith remains certain that he will drink beer that evening, but then again, you know there’s one in every crowd, don’t you?) David Wilson, who joined the CSI board just last month, has begun asking Ron Allen what on earth he’s gotten himself into.
In addition to a wonderful array of wines for sampling and purchasing, this year’s event will feature an over-the-top silent auction. Board secretary Scott Skinner and his co-chair, Pam Fite, promise a wide variety of colorful treasures.
In fact, color, color, color seems to be the theme this year. If, as the fashionistas say, “purple is the new black,” then there will be some very fashionable offerings. Think purple art glass candlesticks combined with purple-stemmed crystal wine glasses. Or, if you like the bubbly, how about a set of four-color champagne glasses? Or a large color-infused art glass bowl?
If a more subtle approach is more to your liking, there will also be several sets of user-friendly dishes, including a “green cabbage” set that would be a marvelous addition to anyone’s spring décor.
Speaking of spring, who wouldn’t like to bid on a landscaping package to help spruce up the yard for the season?
