Anniston police Lt. Fred Forsythe said an employee of Corr Wireless was doing a routine inspection of a cell tower on the 1400 block of Garrett Circle when the employee noticed grounding wires had been cut and removed. Forsythe said the employee also noticed the fence around the tower was cut.
Attempts to reach Corr Wireless for this story were unsuccessful.
According to a police report, $3,000 in copper wiring, phone lines and grounding rods were stolen from the location. The report also states the theft occurred between Dec. 21 and Monday.
“We have some leads that we’re looking into,” Forsythe said.
The lieutenant said investigators were looking into whether surveillance was available at the cell tower’s location.
