Sheriff Larry Amerson said the victim reported on Feb. 10 that she was inappropriately touched by a man she knew at his home in Alexandria.
Amerson said an investigation was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office, the Calhoun-Cleburne Children’s Center and Department of Human Resources.
The man was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor second-degree sexual assault, Amerson said.
Amerson said deputies are looking into allegations of more incidents involving the man with different victims.
“We often find when you start a case like this that there are multiple victims,” Amerson said.
The man paid his $6,000 bond Wednesday and was released from the Calhoun County Jail, according to Amerson. A court date is scheduled for April 9.
The Star typically withholds the identities of those charged with sex crimes unless they are convicted or plead guilty, because the stigma associated with such charges can linger even if the charges are dropped or the suspect is exonerated.
