Republicans hold a supermajority in the 35-member Alabama Senate. As Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh of Anniston told The Star Tuesday, “We have 22 people in the body. There’s no excuse for us not to have a quorum.”

Well, what happened, senator?

Record Tuesday as The Lost Day of the 2013 session. No quorum existed — thus, no legislation was voted on, much less passed — because there weren’t enough members in the chambers when order was called.

The GOP pointed fingers at the Democrats, who denied being immature enough to stage some sort of legislative skip day as a protest over the GOP’s heavy-handed passage of the Alabama Accountability Act.

Even if Democrats pulled that trick, what was up with the in-lock-step Republicans?

Marsh is right. There is no reason why the party in overwhelming charge of the Senate shouldn’t have enough members present to conduct business. Though it may amount to little in the long run, we’ll nevertheless call it a small dab of trouble in Montgomery’s GOP paradise.
