Area fourth-graders celebrate Earth Day

Fourth-graders from around Calhoun County last week celebrated Earth Day early at McClellan. The students, with help from more than 85 volunteers and staff from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, toured the Cane Creek Community Gardens and learned about water quality, electrical safety, natural camouflage, canoeing and water safety, recycling and composting, agriculture and wildlife.

Participating schools included Alexandria Elementary, Cobb Elementary, Constantine Elementary, the Donoho School, Ohatchee Elementary, Pleasant Valley Elementary, Randolph Park Elementary, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, Saks Elementary, Weaver Elementary, Wellborn Elementary, White Plains Elementary.

Volunteers came from groups including the Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board, Alabama Power, Calhoun County Master Gardeners, the Alabama Scenic River Trail and Calhoun County Recycling.
