TUSCALOOSA — Kirby Smart makes a living not giving up big numbers, but his number keeps getting bigger.

The Alabama defensive coordinator saw his salary raised to $1.15 million per year from $950,000 during Tuesday’s University of Alabama board of trustees meeting.

He’ll bump up to $1.35 million in the final two years of his three-year contract, which was extended through February of 2016.

Head coach Nick Saban saw his bonus structure adjusted for the onset of the new, four-team playoff format, which starts in 2014. He will get $200,000 for making the semifinals, $300,000 for making the final and $400,000 for winning it.

Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier saw his pay raised from $590,000 to $680,000 per year and his contract extended into 2016.

All four 2012 assistants who remain on staff — running backs coach Burton Burns ($315,000), defensive line coach Chris Rumph ($360,000), outside linebackers coach Lance Thompson ($400,000) and special teams/tight ends coach Bobby Williams ($400,000) — got raises as well and extensions through 2015.

So did strength coach Scott Cochran ($350,000).

Pay for new assistants was also set: secondary coach Greg Brown ($300,000); offensive line coach Mario Christobal ($475,000); wide receivers coach Billy Napier ($300,000); director of player personnel Kevin Steele ($200,000).
