Chief Dan Hopkins of Hollis Fire and Rescue said the agency received a call about the crash at 1:15 p.m. and called the Heflin Fire Department for backup.
Hopkins said he didn’t know how the accident happened, but the damage to the vehicles was extensive. Both vehicles, a black pickup and a car, had to be cut open to reach the injured drivers, Hopkins said. Hopkins didn’t have the names of the drivers.
The legs of the pickup driver were also pinned by the dash, Hopkins said. That driver, a man, was flown by helicopter to the UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Hopkins said the man was semi-conscious but unable to talk.
The driver of the car, a woman, was transported by Cleburne County Emergency Medical Service to Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Two passengers in the truck were unhurt and were picked up by a friend, Hopkins said.
