EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Jacksonville State bounced back from a 10-0 loss to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville to score a 3-2 in the nightcap of a doubleheader Sunday.

In the opener, Haley Chambers pitched five perfect innings for the Cougars (34-9, 17-3 Ohio Valley Conference). The game ended after that because of the mercy rule.

In the second game, Savanna Hennings got the win for JSU (22-22, 10-10), pitching a four-hitter. Hennings (5-1) limited the Cougars to two third-inning runs.

Junior Amanda Martinez went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for the Gamecocks, accounting for a third of her team's hits. Senior Krystal Ruth, junior Kalee Tabor, sophomore Savannah Sloan and freshman Ella Denes each had one hit for JSU in the win.

The Gamecocks will play a non-conference game Thursday at Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro before hosting Eastern Kentucky in a three-game series that will wrap up the 2013 home schedule.
