A vehicle went through the new intersection of Pelham Road and U.S. 431 this afternoon, crashing into another car.

Anniston police Officer Jeremiah Weldon said a woman driving on Pelham Road slid through a red light and collided with another car.

“She said her brakes weren’t working,” Weldon said. “They just ran into each other.”

Weldon said he didn’t believe the new intersection played a factor in the accident. The officer blamed this afternoon’s wet weather, instead.

“She said she hit the breaks and just starting sliding, so she hydroplaned,” Weldon said.

Anniston Emergency Medical Services and the Anniston Fire Department responded to the accident.

Weldon said he didn’t believe either driver was injured, but both were taken to Regional Medical Center as a precaution.

“They may be banged up a little bit, but I don’t know if there’s anything severe,” Weldon said.
