The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office charged Fidel Corfah, 23, of Lawrenceville, Ga., with one count of first-degree assault and two counts of hazing. Corfah was arrested in Jacksonville on Wednesday. He was released Thursday on a $5,000 bond.
Crofah and at least 15 others are accused of taking part in a hazing incident on Nov. 26 2011 that left a former Alpha Phi Alpha pledge, Jason Horton, seriously injured.
A suit filed by Horton in July 2012 states that he was beaten so badly that he had to be hospitalized for 24 days. The suit also states Horton was made to drink excessive amounts of alcohol, beaten with fists and paddles and hit with multiple objects for more than four hours. The next day, Horton claims in the suit, he bled internally, he vomited blood and his urine was black.
Alpha Phi Alpha was dismissed from JSU after the incident.
