Police were investigating a report today of several cars burned Sunday afternoon at an Anniston body shop.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said someone broke into a business on the 1600 block of Front Street and set a car on fire. An employee at Pressley Body Shop and Towing declined to give his name, but confirmed the fire occurred at the business.

Sparks said the Anniston Fire Department responded to a call between 4:30 and 5:30 Sunday afternoon. Firefighters found one car on fire and four others sustained burn damage, Sparks said.

The vehicle where the fire originated appeared to be forced open, Sparks said. Police and the body shop employee were uncertain Monday how much damage the fire caused.

Sparks said no one was at the business when the fire started.

The incident was still under investigation, Sparks said, and no suspects had been named.

A suspect could be charged with breaking and entering a vehicle, a felony, according to a police report.
