With Anniston reaching for the goal of becoming “Bike City, Alabama,” the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce wants to let people know what economic benefits such a designation could bring to the area.

The chamber, the International Mountain Biking Association, Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association and the Coldwater Mountain Bike Committee are hosting a joint town-hall style meeting this evening to talk about the effect the Coldwater trails could have for Calhoun County. The event will feature special guest speaker Joey Klein of the International Mountain Biking Association.

“In 2010, tourists spent an estimated $9 billion while exploring the state of Alabama,” said Ebonee Thompson, tourism and marketing director for the Chamber of Commerce, in a press release. “With the development of the Coldwater Mountain bicycle trail, Calhoun County could single-handedly begin to add to that growing figure by attracting tourists and bicycle enthusiasts.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce building on Quintard Avenue and will feature a question-and-answer session.

Residents who want more information should call the Chamber of Commerce at 256-237-3536.
