Under a scoring system that awards points for every team member finishing in eighth place or better in an event, Piedmont had 40 points. Trinity (36) is second, while T.R. Miller (30) is third.
In the 3A girls competition, Piedmont is third with 26 points. Bayside has 51.5 points, followed by T.R. Miller (36).
In 2A boys, Pleasant Valley is fourth with 24 points, trailing LaFayette (42), Mobile Christian (34) and Lanett (25). In 4A girls, Anniston’s girls are 10th with nine points. UMS-Wright leads with 52.5.
In 3A boys, Piedmont’s Xavier Jackson was third in the shot put, while Logan Moore was fourth and Marquez Gamble was eighth. Moore also was second in the discus. Saks’ Vincent Hilliard was sixth in the discus. Weaver’s Brannon Bellar was seventh in the 400 meters.
Piedmont’s Jamie Major finished second in the javelin, and teammate Michael Devoe was third. Jamaal Young was fifth in the 400-meter dash. Chase Keener finished seventh in the pole vault.
In 3A girls, Piedmont’s Breanna Thompson was second in the high jump and the long jump and eighth in the shot put. Sarah Garner was fifth in the long jump. Weaver’s Keara Scott was fifth in the high jump.
In 2A boys, Pleasant Valley’s Matthew Bonds won the 1,600 meters, and teammate Todd Kirk finished second. Pleasant Valley finished third in the 4-by-800 relay.
For Oxford, Jacob Schwyn was eighth in the 1,600-meter boys run, and Jamiria Bradford was eighth in the long jump.
In 4A boys, Munford’s Kyle Franklin won the 400 meters. Anniston’s Tadarius Smith was sixth in the triple jump.
In 4A girls, Anniston’s Jasmine Heard finished fifth in the long jump and fourth in the 400 meters.
Morgan Whaley was 4-for-5 with a double, a homer and five RBIs for Oxford in the Class 6A, Area 13 tournament Friday.
Oxford beat Pell City 13-9 after falling to Clay-Chalkville 3-2. Rain postponed the remainder of the day. The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to play Clay-Chalkville today at 11 a.m. They must beat the Cougars twice to win the area title.
Stewart Gail Chase went 6-for-9 with three RBIs. Jenn Turner was 2-for-4, and Carlee Waits was 2-for-3.
Sydney Williams was the winning pitcher against Pell City.
