A man who’s been in the Calhoun County Jail since March charged with sexually abusing a girl could face charges of possession of child pornography, Anniston police said Friday.

The 23-year-old suspect was charged on March 6 with sexually abusing a 4-year-old Anniston girl.

The Anniston man was charged with first-degree sodomy after he allegedly had inappropriate contact with the girl on March 4 at a home on the 1600 block of Coleman Road.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said while police were interviewing the man, he admitted to having pornographic images of children on a flash drive.

George said the flash drive was sent to the Electronic Crimes Task Force in Birmingham for further analysis. The captain said the lab found 127 images of suspected child pornography on the device.

Multiple child pornography possession charges are pending, George said.

The man was in the Calhoun County Jail on Friday, George said. Online court records show the man has a cash bond set at $20,000.

The Star typically withholds the identities of those charged with sex crimes unless they are convicted or plead guilty, because the stigma associated with such charges can linger even if the charges are dropped or the suspect is exonerated.
