A woman died in a mobile home fire Monday morning in Borden Springs, according to the Cleburne County coroner.

Ben McKnight, the coroner, said he would not release the woman’s name until she is positively identified by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Huntsville.

“We’re reasonably sure we know who she is,” McKnight said Tuesday morning.

McKnight said the fire started in a trailer on County Road 94 Monday morning between 6:30 and 8 o’clock.

He said he expected to have a preliminary autopsy report from the lab later this week.

The coroner said the cause of the woman’s death and the fire’s cause were still under investigation Tuesday.

“She did die in the fire, but as far as the actual cause I’m not sure,” McKnight said.

McKnight said no one else was injured during the blaze.

Repeated attempts to reach Cleburne County Sheriff Joe Jacks for more information Tuesday were unsuccessful.
