A man was in a Birmingham hospital today after he was shot in the face early this morning in Hobson City.

Matthew Wade, chief deputy of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, said the shooting happened around 12:15 a.m. at a home on Wilkerson Drive in Hobson City. Wade said the 31-year-old victim heard a knock at his door and when he opened it he saw two men. One of the men fired a gun and the bullet went across the bridge of the victim’s nose, through his eye and exited out the back of his head, Wade said.

Wade said the victim was airlifted to UAB Hospital. He was uncertain of the man’s condition this afternoon.

The chief deputy said the man’s eye was completely removed by the bullet.

Deputies were still searching for suspects this afternoon, Wade said.

A suspect could be charged with first-degree assault, a felony, according to a police report.
