An inmate in the Anniston City Jail broke a fire sprinkler system this morning and flooded his cell, police said.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the inmate, Karl Tyree, broke the head off the sprinkler on his cell’s ceiling around 4 a.m.

According to George, Tyree thought the sprinkler head was a camera.

A police report estimates the damage at $2,501.

Tyree was in the Anniston City Jail serving a sentence for a charge of disorderly conduct. According to George, the charge stemmed from a May 10 incident in which Tyree refused to leave the Regional Medical Center emergency room and blocked the entrance.

George said Tyree will likely be charged with first-degree criminal mischief, a felony.
