According to Anniston police Capt. Allen George, the 70-year-old loaned his digital camera to a friend. While using the camera the friend discovered several nude, posed pictures of his 2-year-old niece, George said.
According to George, the images were taken in the suspect’s home. George also said there were 10 pictures of other nude juveniles on the camera. George said he did not know who the other children were.
There were also 74 photographs of a computer screen displaying pornographic images, George said.
George said the suspect’s friend told police the 70-year-old babysat his niece while his sister worked during the day.
According to George, there are seven separate search warrants on items from the suspect’s home.
George said investigators with the Alabama Electronic Crimes Task Force in Hoover will search the suspect’s computers, cell phone, video camera, disposable camera and more than 75 CDs and DVDs.
George said the Alabama Department of Human Resources and the Calhoun-Cleburne Children’s Center are also involved in the investigation.
George said he did not know whether the suspect had sexually assaulted any of the children.
The suspect was in the Anniston City Jail Wednesday with bond set at $10,000. No court date was set.
The Star typically withholds the identities of those charged with sex crimes unless they are convicted or plead guilty, because the stigma associated with such charges can linger even if the charges are dropped or the suspect is exonerated.
