Anniston police say a man arrested on burglary charges today kicked down a door and stole jewelry and medication from a home on Moore Avenue.

According to Anniston police Capt. Allen George, officers received an anonymous phone call around 1 a.m. Friday alerting them to a possible burglary in progress on the 2000 block of Moore Avenue.

When police arrived they found Deleon Thomas, 22, of Anniston and another unknown male inside the victim’s living room, the captain said.

According to George, the unknown male ran out the back door and was chased by one officer while the other officer detained Thomas in the living room.

George said the officer found gold jewelry, a silver ring, electric chargers and blood pressure medication on Thomas. The captain said the other man escaped the officer.

According to George, Thomas told the officers his girlfriend lived in the house and he was picking up some of her belongings. Police called the homeowner, who told them that she was not in a relationship with Thomas and he did not have permission to be there, George said.

Thomas was in the Anniston City Jail this morning, charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, according to George. No bond had been set.
