Also, UDC supplemental certifcates were presented to Chapter members Betty Taylor Bunn and Anne Aiken Vaillancourt. Mrs. Bunn proved the Confederate military service of her ancestor George W. Taylor in the 17th Alabama Infantry. Mrs. Vaillancourt is a proven descendant of John Marshall Akins and Duncan Cooksey, both of whom served from Georgia in the CSA Army.
Mr. Harold Davis of Heflin was honored by the Major General Patrick R. Cleburne Chapter. This UDC Chapter presented Mr. Davis with a World War II Cross of Military Service and also a Korean War National Defense Medal in appreciation of his service in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant. He is a lineal descendant of Charles Venable who served in Company A 41st Georgia Infantry during the War Between the States.
The military bestowal ceremony was held at the Ayers Auditiorium of the Anniston-Calhoun County Library, presented by Lynda Lowery of Heflin and Jo Howard of Oxford. The veteran’s sons, Steve Davis and Donald Davis, were present to share in the honoring of their father.
