Mayor Rick Freeman, who’s been having to take it a bit easier these past few months, said he’s not missing a beat at city hall. He goes into his office every day and stays for at least a couple of hours. He’s in daily contact with city personnel through his cell phone.

“Actually,” he said, “I feel great. If it weren’t for the swelling from my knees down, I’d be perfect.”

Getting his blood regulated to the right consistency is Freeman’s problem.

“They’ve put me on a new medicine, and it seems to be working a lot better,” he said. “I can just barely touch something, and I’ll bleed for a long period of time. If I brush my teeth, I bleed. But like I said, this new medicine seems to be helping a lot.”

Freeman said if he stands a lot, his knees swell making it difficult to bend.

A home health nurse recently advised him to ask his doctor about changing medicines, and that’s when he began to see some results.

“They get on to me at city hall and tell me I need to go home,” he said. “They’ll tell me I’ve been there long enough, that I need to go on to the house.”

Freeman attended a Habitat for Humanity house dedication Saturday. He looking forward to cosmetic changes in the city, some of which have already taken place, including painting of the administrative building and redoing the gazebo area.

“We’ve got a lot of projects going on,” he said. “We’ve got to keep our town pretty. That helps us keep a positive outlook. Once we get the blood straightened out, everything will be good to go.”

Councilman Bill Baker is mayor pro tem.
