Anniston police today were investigating a theft of more than $3,000 from a local rent-to-own business.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said an employee at Best Way at 3230 McClellan Blvd. is suspected of stealing from the business. The theft occurred between June 21 and June 24, according to a police report.

George said the company’s corporate office noticed there were three deposits that should have been made totaling $3,338. The captain said the business reported the theft to police on Tuesday.

Police were following leads today on a suspect who no longer works at the store, George said.

Any suspect could face charges of felony first-degree theft.
