Re “Amerson has shown leadership” (Speak Out, July 1):

I read the Speak Out letter written by Buddy Eiland and I fully agree with it.

I would like to add one comment, but let me first introduce myself. I am a member of the board of Family Links serving with Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson and Eiland. I am also vice president of Family Links.

The Star has made a big case of the criticism of the auditors of the sheriff’s office.

If instead of showing the transaction as a loan it was shown as a gift from the sheriff to Family Links, there could be no criticism. That is permitted. If later on Family Links paid it back, that is also permitted.

So, what’s the big deal?
