Alabama State Troopers today were investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a Heflin man Thursday afternoon.

Robert Pesnell, 55, was killed when the pickup truck he was driving hit a tree and overturned on U.S. 431, 10 miles south of Wedowee, according to a release sent by Charles Dysart, public information officer for the Alabama State Troopers.

Terry Sparks, Randolph County coroner, said he pronounced Pesnell dead at the scene at 5:07 p.m. Sparks said no one else was in the vehicle during the crash.

“The rear end of the vehicle struck a tree as it went over an embankment,” Sparks said.

Sparks said he was uncertain what caused the wreck.

Pesnell was not wearing a seatbelt during the accident, Dysart wrote.

According to the release, the accident was still under investigation today.
