Anniston police today were investigating $10,000 worth of copper stolen from a local refurbishing business.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the owner of Coleman Inc. on the 700 block of Noble Street discovered the theft Wednesday afternoon.

Copper from refrigerated cases and condensers estimated at $10,000 were stolen between Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon, according to a police report.

George said the business refurbishes refrigerator cases and a lot of the inventory was stored outside. The business was not broken into, George said. The captain said the copper could be scrapped, which is most likely why it was stolen.

George said police were following a possible lead today.

Any suspect could be charged with felony first-degree theft.
