Anniston police this morning said officers arrested a Lincoln man on charges that he stole a rental car in October 2011.

Michael Isaac Chatman, 31, was charged today with felony first-degree theft.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said Chatman stole a 2011 Cadillac DTS parked outside the Anniston Post Office on Quintard Avenue on Oct. 19, 2011. The car was in the parking lot, George said, with the keys inside and the engine running.

Shortly after, Chatman was pulled over by the Lincoln Police Department, George said.

Lincoln police discovered Chatman had a warrant for a similar theft in their jurisdiction, the captain said.

Online court records show Chatman pleaded guilty to first-degree theft and was sentenced to four years in prison on March 21, 2012.

Prosecutor Steven Giddens said Chatman was released on parole, but was uncertain when the parole began.

Chatman was transferred to the Calhoun County Jail this morning, according to an Anniston City Jail employee.

Bond is set at $5,000. A court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 5.
