A 31-year-old man told deputies Friday that he was assaulted while walking down an Anniston street.

Sheriff Larry Amerson, of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, said today that the victim was walking down 15th Street on Friday morning when he was approached by the suspect.

The victim told deputies he recognized the suspect, but did not know his name, Amerson said.

The suspect punched the victim several times in the face and knocked him to the ground, the sheriff said.

Amerson said the suspect struck the victim again in the face with the bottom of a pistol and then fled.

The victim was treated at Regional Medical Center, Amerson said, for injuries from which he is expected to recover.

Amerson said deputies were investigating the incident today.

Any suspect could be charged with felony second-degree assault.
