Police this morning released the name of a 5-year-old Anniston boy who died in a Birmingham hospital on Friday.

Gregory Caver died Friday afternoon after officers were called to his home on the 2400 block of Wilmer Avenue, according to Anniston police Capt. Allen George.

Caver was taken to Stringfellow Memorial Hospital and later died at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

George said this morning that police were still investigating Caver’s death and declined to release further details.

Officials received a preliminary autopsy report for Caver on Monday afternoon, George said.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown said this morning he had not reviewed the report, but also declined to discuss results pending the police investigation.

Police on Monday charged two people in connection with a separate child-abuse incident that occurred Friday at the same house on Wilmer Avenue.
