Jacob Carl Sievers, 35, of Montgomery, was charged with two counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony.
Anniston police Capt. Allen George said Regions Bank corporate security reported on April 3, 2012 that two fake checks were cashed at two bank locations. George said a check worth $1,600 was cashed at the Regions Bank at 930 Wilmer Ave. The check was written to Sievers from Hyatt House Apartments in Auburn, the captain said.
The bank told police that an employee at Hyatt House did not write the check and his signature was forged.
Police also had surveillance photos of Siever cashing the check, George said. Another check was cashed at a Regions Bank in Oxford, George said, but he was uncertain how much the check was worth.
Online court records show Sievers was charged with possession of a forged instrument in February 2012 by Montgomery police. George was uncertain why Sievers wasn’t charged for the crimes in Anniston and Oxford sooner.
Sievers was in the Calhoun County Jail this morning. Bond is set at $5,000. A court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 26.
