Karl Williams, 20, of Anniston, was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony.
Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said a 26-year-old woman was robbed in a parking lot on the 1700 block of Noble Street. The victim told police she was in her car when a man she didn’t know brandished a handgun and demanded money, Sparks said.
The victim gave the man $20 and the suspect fled on foot, Sparks said. The victim was not injured during the robbery, he said.
The suspect was identified as Williams later that night when police recovered evidence from the crime on the 1500 block of Quintard Avenue, Sparks said. The sergeant declined to provide details about the evidence.
Williams was arrested at his home around 10 o’clock this morning on the 2300 block of Walnut Avenue.
Williams was in the Anniston City Jail this afternoon. Bond was set at $50,000. A court appearance had yet to be scheduled, according to a Calhoun County District Court employee.
