Guarding the line is man who looks remarkably like Mark Emmert. The fact that he’s wearing a blazer with an NCAA logo is at least an amazing coincidence.
We almost didn’t notice him standing there, for all of the folks jumping over and rolling under the partition line to get to the high-profile college athletes on the other side.
There stood Johnny Manziel, Jadeveon Clowney and Teddy Bridgewater. Rumor has it AJ McCarron and his girlfriend were in there, too.
I swear. They were all there. One just can’t see them anymore for the cultural bum rush surrounding them.
“Stop,” said the Emmert-like figure, hopefully and wistfully.
Initially, there’s no reaction, but he repeats more loudly, prompting a hush over the cultural bum rush.
Everybody stops, turns and looks at this strange and out-of-touch man. There’s a pregnant pause followed by a mass spit laugh.
Then, the cultural bum rush turns back to those high-profile college athletes, somewhere in there.
As the Emmert-like man’s face drops, a man strongly favoring Jay Bilas walks by, slowing to pat him on the back. Then another man favoring Mike Slive walks up, holding out a set of keys.
