Anniston police were investigating the death of a 4-month-old child Friday afternoon.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said police labeled the case as a death investigation. Sparks said he could not comment on any of the circumstances of the child’s death. The sergeant said police were planning to release more details Monday.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown said the 17-week-old child appeared to be a victim of heat exposure. Brown was unsure of the child’s gender. The coroner said he could not release the child’s name because his office was still contacting the child’s family.

Brown said the child’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville, and he expected to have a preliminary autopsy report Monday.
