The man spent Friday night at the home of his male friend’s house on Glenvale Drive in Alexandria, Sheriff Larry Amerson said. The 22-year-old victim, who is the girlfriend of the suspect’s friend, told deputies that after her boyfriend left the house, she woke up to find the suspect touching her, Amerson said.
Amerson said a deputy was at the home around the time the incident happened to serve a warrant for a traffic offense on the boyfriend. The deputy heard a female voice telling someone to stop, Amerson said, and saw the suspect jump up and zip his pants.
The victim’s testimony paired with what the deputy witnessed was enough to charge the man with first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, the sheriff said.
The man was still in the Calhoun County Jail this afternoon. Bond is set at $15,000. A court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30.
The Star typically withholds the identities of those charged with sex crimes unless they are convicted or plead guilty, because the stigma associated with such charges can linger even if the charges are dropped or the suspect is exonerated.
