Anniston’s future is literally in your hands. Listening tours offered by our City Council and mayor in February, March and April of this year helped identify the public’s concerns and ideas for improvement.

It is now time to take that input, identify the missing elements and map a future that will benefit all residents. You can help shape that future by participating in one or more of three upcoming public workshops.

Two-hour workshops will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the Anniston City Meeting Center, Sept. 17 at the Norwood Hodges Community Center and Sept. 9 at the Carver Community Center. This is a unique opportunity for you to help identify issues that were previously overlooked, identify areas of strength and weakness and brainstorm about why the weak areas are weak and the strong areas are strong. Armed with this information, leaders of Anniston can build a strategic plan that will effectively improve the weaknesses while further enhancing the strengths. A better operating city equals increased revenue, which equals better services.

You matter, and you count. Be more than just a statistic. Be part of the plan. Help our city leaders plot the future. Just like a football team takes hard-working athletes, a good city needs active participants. As Betty Carr, a local hero, would say, “Wake up each morning and decide to be a hero.” Be a hero for your town and show up at one of the meetings as a change agent. Together we can make miracles happen. We can truly be “One City, One Vision.”
