Calhoun County deputies today were investigating the reported rape of an 8-year-old Jacksonville boy last month.

Lt. Jon Garlick said the Sheriff’s Office received a report that an 8-year-old boy was sexually abused by his father. Garlick said a similar report was filed earlier this week regarding abuse of the boy’s 9-year-old half-sister by the same suspect.

The abuse occurred between Aug. 2 and Aug. 23, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies, the Department of Human Resources and the Calhoun-Cleburne Children’s Center were investigating the two reports today. Garlick said no arrests had been made as of this morning.

“These take a while because the kids have to be interviewed. They build the case slowly,” Garlick said of the Children’s Center.

Garlick said the suspect had full custody of the boy and saw the girl during weekend visits.

Any suspect could be charged with first-degree rape, a felony.
