First, let me say I am happy that the situation the Henderson family encountered with their granddaughter’s vehicle breaking down in Montgomery ended well.
But if a resident of White Plains, Ohatchee, Oxford or any communities surrounding Anniston encountered a similar situation — a loved one’s vehicle breaking down at 9 p.m. in another community — would they receive the same response from Sheriff Larry Amerson? Would they get the same assistance even though they were not a former longtime Calhoun County commissioner who now serves as Calhoun County circuit clerk? Would they have a deputy from another sheriff’s office arrive within 15 minutes of their initial call and transport the loved one to a safe location?
Who of us would have access to the sheriff’s private phone number to call him at 9 p.m. for assistance? I doubt they would experience the same outcome. But you decide.
