The fact that the Spirit turned 20 years old this past July and continues to remain a vibrant Main Street program in downtown is a testament to the foundation that was built under his leadership. Even in his death, Barksdale’s commitment to downtown revitalization continues with his desire that donations be made to local Main Street programs within the communities he served from Alabama to Tennessee to Kentucky.
I was fortunate to have worked with Scott during his tenure as executive director at the Spirit of Anniston through my affiliation with the media. Scott made himself accessible to each of our needs, was informative, delightful and a friendly representative of downtown. Scott never met a stranger and was knowledgeable when it came to economic development.
The board of directors joins me in sending its condolences to Scott Barksdale’s family, friends and colleagues across the country who will miss his friendly gestures, infectious laughter and expertise in Main Street management.
