Oxford police charged a woman Wednesday with hitting a 66-year-old woman with a tire iron at a local hotel.

Rosey Ann Davis, 43, of Anniston, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony.

Davis went to the Hampton Inn and Suites on Colonial Drive in Oxford Tuesday around 3:30 a.m., according to Oxford police Lt. L.G. Owens.

Owens said Davis wore dark clothing, a ski mask and white gloves and was carrying a tire iron when she walked into the hotel lobby. The lieutenant said Davis attacked the 66-year-old woman at the hotel desk with the tire iron. The victim suffered several bruises on her arms and was bleeding from the back of her head when police arrived, Owens said. The victim was able to pull the tire iron away from Davis, Owens said, and Davis fled the hotel before police arrived.

The victim was taken to Regional Medical Center and is expected to recover from her injuries.

Owens said police were able to identify Davis after reviewing the hotel’s video surveillance footage.

Owens said Davis is dating a man who until last week was employed by the hotel. Police found Davis at the her boyfriend’s home. Officers were still investigating today why the assault occurred, Owens said.

Davis was in the Calhoun County Jail this afternoon. Bond is set at $10,000. A court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 21.
