LaQUINTA, Cal. – Lance Evans wrapped up his experience in the Golf Channel Am Tour National Championship with a wind-blown 85 on the Palmer Private Course at PGA West.

The Oxford golfer played his final round in estimated 20-mph sustained winds with 50-mph gusts. He finished the event with a total of 333.

“I hit the ball pretty good today,” he said, “but it was just too much course for me.”

The conditions were benign when he started and he turned in 40, but the winds started whipping when he reached his ninth tee and on some holes coming home found himself hitting shots 100 yards left to compensate. He didn’t make a par on his inward nine, but did have two birdies and shot 45.

“It was fun,” he said of the experience. “I didn’t play nearly the golf I wanted to. I wanted to come out and honestly shoot close to even par. I played bad and couldn’t get it going.”

It wasn’t a total loss, however. He did make some key contacts for commitments to the Lord Wedgwood Charity Classic he organizes, April 27-28 at Shoal Creek. Information on that event can be found at lwcharity.com.
