An inmate from the Calhoun County Jail, sent by court order to live in a drug rehabilitation program, escaped from the program’s facility on West 10th Street early this week.

Tyler Gage Cortez, 20, of Oxford left Tri-County Outreach between 11 p.m. Monday and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Chief Deputy Matthew Wade of the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

Cortez had recently been fired from his job at a local fast food restaurant, Wade said.

Cortez had been arrested in May on three counts of drug distribution charges, according to court records. Calhoun County District Court Judge Chris McIntyre in June ordered Cortez into the rehab program at Tri-County Outreach.

Wade said Cortez is charged with escape, a felony.
