I’ll be the first to admit that I am naive about foreign aid. I just can’t understand what we gain by giving billions of dollars to other countries when our own country is struggling to survive. Do we gain something by borrowing money from China and giving it away? Then the ones we give it to tell us to get out of their country and burn our flag.

We nearly defaulted recently because of the deficit, but our government solved the problem by “kicking the can down the road.” Sooner or later that road will be a dead end. Then I read in The Star that we gave Egypt, Afghanistan and other countries enormous amounts of money when our own citizens are hurting financially.

Something is wrong when our government takes care of other countries instead of our own. Maybe someone will take a few minutes to enlighten me about the logic, or lack of logic, regarding foreign aid.
