TUSCALOOSA -- Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron was named one of 16 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award on Monday.

The award is given to the nation's top quarterback. McCarron was a semifinalist last season, but Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel took home the award in 2012.

Last week, McCarron was also named one of 16 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the collegiate player of the year.

McCarron has completed 145 of 209 (69.4 percent) passes for 1,862 yards and 16 touchdowns to just three interceptions.

He'll lead the top-ranked Crimson Tide into a showdown with LSU on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
