Anniston police today were investigating a theft from Howard Core and Company in which 500 violins were reported stolen.

The cost of the property was $22,648, according to a police report.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the company received three orders for 500 violins from a man in Singapore.

George said the order was paid for on a credit card belonging to Jaran Chong.

George said that on Oct. 1, after the violins had been shipped to an air freight center in Singapore, the company received a notice that the transaction had been denied.

Any suspect could face felony charges of first-degree theft, according to a police report.
