This year’s Veterans Day ceremony in Centennial Memorial Park was a huge success in many ways. With a crowd of upwards of 500 and great weather, the music and ceremonial events were awesome, especially Brian Conary on the bagpipes. This year, the Marine Corps League performed the Honor Volley and six local mayors were in attendance.

These events don’t just happen. I want to thank Anniston Mayor Vaughn Stewart and the Anniston City Council, Anniston Parks and Recreation Director Steven Folks, Eli Henderson, Tim Hodges, Fred Wilson and all the Calhoun County commissioners and Linda Hearn at the Chamber of Commerce. A special thanks to Oxford Police Chief Bill Partridge, who scrubbed all the memorials prior to the ceremony.

Every time we have an event in the park, someone local makes the comment that it is their first time to come to the park. I suggest that you make it a point to visit, for it is a great place to teach young children the true cost of freedom.

Thanks to all the media for the coverage, especially The Anniston Star, with great pictures from Bill Wilson. Our next event will be on Memorial Day, so mark your calendars.
