On Nov. 22, 1963, I was living in Maywood, Calif., with my wife and two kids. I worked in Southgate, Calif., at the General Motors plant. I was at work on this day when we got the word President Kennedy had been assassinated. They closed the plant and sent us home for the day. I watched the events on television as they unfolded live all the way up to the point where Lee Harvey Oswald was shot and killed in the police station by Jack Ruby. It felt like I was watching a movie. I remember this all so well because it was also my 29th birthday.
