According to Anniston police Lt. Jay Whisenant, the boy was treated and released from Stringfellow Hospital Monday night. Whisenant said Tuesday that he did not know the severity of the boy’s injuries, and a spokeswoman from Stringfellow Memorial Hospital said she could not release information about the boy’s condition Tuesday afternoon.
According to Whisenant, around 4:30 p.m., several shots were fired on the 600 block of Jewell Street and the 600 block of East 18th Street, during which the boy was injured.
Whisenant said the type of gun used during the shooting is still under investigation.
No suspect had been identified as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Whisenant, and the lieutenant said he did not know whether the boy was the target of the shooting.
Bullets from the shooting also struck a home, a storage shed and a vehicle, according to police reports.
Any suspect could face a felony assault charge as well as three felony charges of discharging a firearm into a building, according to police reports.
