The combination of Quanetria Bolton and head coach Eddie Bullock’s suffocating defense helped the Anniston girls earn a Class 4A, Area 10 basketball win over Munford.

Bolton finished the night with a double-double — 21 points and 19 rebounds — and added six blocks. Ki-yona Bullock had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Marticia Jackson added nine points and dished out six assists.

Anniston (6-2, 2-0) led 24-11 at halftime and extended its lead to 44-16 after three quarters.

“We played good defense. Munford has a tough team. They have some good athletes on their team, and I didn’t want to have a mental lapse. Plus, it was an area game,” Bullock said. “So we had to be focused and do what we needed to do, and that’s what they did. The girls came out focused, and did what I told them to do.”

“Any time you can get up in the area, it’s great because that’s the key to playing the area tournament at home. It’s easy to play in front of your crowd than someone else’s.”

For the Lions, Kierra Grace was the leading scorer with eight points. She also pulled down six rebounds.

Because of Anniston’s stiff defense, Munford did not get on the scoreboard in the second half until Ra’Aunna Caldwell hit the second of two free throws, with 2:28 remaining in the third quarter.

Anniston boys 60, Munford 47: Demarcus Thomas only had four points going into the second quarter, but that didn’t stop the guard from continuing to shoot and finish the night as Anniston’s leading scorer.

Thomas finished with 23 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Quinterious Croft also finished the night in double figures as he collected a quiet 10 points. Quint Dobbins added nine points and 11 rebounds.

Qua Frazier chipped in with nine points, five rebounds and six assists.

“It’s always good to get an area win,” Anniston coach Schuessler Ware said. “I was wondering how we would come out and play tonight after we played a tough Parker team at Parker. “

The Bulldogs were up 39-19 at halftime, before the Lions outscored them in the second half 25-17.

Monteo Garrett lead Munford’s scorers with 11 points. C.J. Chapman added 10 points and eight rebounds. Tavon Lawson chipped in seven points and seven rebounds as well.
