That quotation is taken from a new PBS report on the state of American newspapers, "Black and White and Dead All Over." The 83-minute documentary follows the rise of U.S. papers and the struggles of the entire industry in the last few years -- struggles in journalism, economics and reach.

Even for someone in the business who's well aware of where the industry stands, it's nonetheless an in-depth report that's eye-opening in its frankness. Warning: There are a few parts that contain adult language, for what that's worth.
